words in the dark

candles

in the dark,

i shift restlessly.

with each movement,

i sense you somewhere,

so close,

so close.

word flesh flies around

in my mind,

searching,

sticking to the structures within,

taking shape.

in the dark,

words tumble out,

embryonic,

shaken loose.

finally free.

shining, bottomless reflections

from the hall of mirrors between us

that transform into lit arrows,

zooming out of our mouths,

overhead,

pointing the way.

they are a bridge

for me to walk across,

to touch the skin on your hand.

burrowing beneath,

i dive down

into stormy, dark waters.

words become waves

of understanding.

rolling,

breaking apart,

then receding

in the dark.
